Revamping KYC and Customer Management System

This project involved the comprehensive redesign of a Know Your Customer (KYC) and customer management web application for EthSwitch, a prominent financial technology entity in Ethiopia. The primary objective was to streamline the customer registration and data management processes, enhancing both user experience for administrators and data accuracy for compliance. My role encompassed the end-to-end UX design, focusing on creating intuitive workflows, clear information architecture, and a user-friendly interface.

Problem: The existing KYC and customer management processes likely suffered from inefficiencies, potential data entry errors, and a cumbersome user journey, leading to operational delays and a less-than-optimal experience for both internal staff and customers.

Solution & My Contribution: I addressed these challenges by designing a robust and intuitive web interface that simplifies complex data entry and management tasks. My key contributions include:

  • Streamlined Onboarding & Registration Flows: I designed a multi-step customer registration process that breaks down complex data collection into manageable sections (Personal Information, Contact Information, Identification Documents, Financial Information). This approach reduces cognitive load and guides users efficiently through data submission.
  • Intuitive Customer Profile Management: I developed detailed customer profile views that allow administrators to easily access and edit various categories of information, including personal details, contact information, emergency contacts, identification documents, and financial data. The tabbed navigation system ensures quick access to relevant sections.
  • Clear Identification Document Handling: I designed a dedicated section for managing identification documents, allowing for easy attachment, viewing, and downloading of critical files like National ID, Passport, Utility Bills, and Driver’s License. The inclusion of a modal for uploading documents enhances the user flow.
  • Enhanced Data Visibility & Actionability: The customer overview screen provides a clear, at-a-glance view of all registered customers, including their KYC ID, phone number, National ID, and creation date, with options for sorting and adding new customers. The “Pending” status and “Move to blacklist” options within individual customer profiles demonstrate consideration for workflow management.
  • User-Centric Forms and Inputs: All input fields are clearly labeled, with appropriate placeholders and dropdown menus for standardized data entry. This attention to detail minimizes errors and improves overall usability.
  • Ethical Considerations: The design incorporates fields for “Nationality/Citizenship” and integrates with National ID verification, showcasing an understanding of local regulatory and identity requirements.
  • Visual Consistency and Branding: The interface maintains a clean, modern aesthetic with a consistent color palette (orange, white, and grey) and branding elements (EthSwitch logo).

Impact (Desired/Anticipated): The redesigned KYC and customer management system is expected to significantly reduce manual processing time, minimize data entry errors, improve compliance by ensuring accurate and complete customer information, and ultimately enhance the operational efficiency of EthSwitch.
